yellow room      (2-3years)

Decorated in shades of soothing green, this spacious room provides an environment that is calm yet conducive to learning. Our pre-schoolers in this room benefit from a wonderfully equipped ‘home corner’ which encourages role play, communication and language as well as imaginative play and social development.

Our cosy reading benches allow the children to sit amongst a lovely range of soft toys  and cushions whilst they enjoy a story or take a look at an interesting non-fiction book, sometimes with an adult or friend and sometimes on their own.

The children have regular access to a 'messy' play area, where they can explore with sand, water, play dough and other malleable materials, as well as using paint, glue and scissors to create their works or art!

We also have two dedicated computers for the children to use and all children are encouraged to make full use of the equipment available to them.

A range of construction equipment is available to enable children to investigate and develop their ideas through model making, as well as building upon their understanding of how shapes can fit together.

Our excellent range of ‘small world’ equipment, train sets, toy vehicles, dolls, puppets and lotto games helps to extend communication, language, literacy and imaginative development. These are stored in shelving units which allow and encourage children to access the equipment with ease. They are also encouraged to help to tidy and put their equipment away.

We have an excellent range of puzzles to suit each child’s particular stage of development amongst a broad bank of literacy, mathematical and scientific based resources to extend and challenge all of our children.

Our 2-3 year olds are encouraged to develop their independence through a variety of ways such as helping to set the table at meal times, tidying up our play things, hanging up our coats etc. They have all day access to water and fruit, rather than 'planned' snack times. This allows the child to recognise their own bodily needs and respond, i.e. 'I am thirsty....I will drink some water.' Children will also become hungry at different times and not necessarily when we dictate that they should, this is why we allow them unlimited access to fruit.

Heuristic Play sessions are offered regularly to our 2-3 year olds, providing them with opportunities to explore with a wide range of natural and everyday objects and materials, see Curriculum for further details . We are very pleased with our development of Heuristic Play and feel that the children benefit immensely from them.

In the Green Room you also will find a tropical aquarium with a variety of tropical fish which proves popular with children and parents.
