yellow room 3m - 1 year

Our toddler room intends to build upon the ethos of our baby room and is equipped with toys and activities to encourage young children to extend their learning through the use of their senses with confidence and freedom.

Our cosy corner allows children to rest in comfort, surrounded by soft toys and a good range of fiction and non-fiction books appropriate to their ages and stages of development. Toddlers can investigate using malleable materials such as play dough and wet sand and enjoy the use of cause and effect toys which encourage fine motor control, an awareness of colours, shapes and sounds. Our toddlers thoroughly enjoy and benefit from their regular Heuristic Play sessions, where they are encouraged to explore a wide range of everyday and natural objects - see Curriculum for further details.

Adults make regular observations on the children, which they use to inform their planning. This is vital as children will learn best when they are interested, so it is important that the Key workers have a good understanding of each child's particular stage of development and what they enjoy doing in order to plan a range of appropriate and interesting activities for them.

Mirrors on the walls encourage our younger children to develop a sense of self and their own identities and a dressing up box allows them to engage in early role play.

Children can use our high quality range of construction equipment to develop their ideas through model making and use our ‘small world’ toys to feed their imagination and encourage early communication and language. Our toddlers can sleep and rest in comfort using their individual sleeping bags when the need arises.
