Orange room is where our three to five year olds begin to develop their stepping stones towards the Early Learning Goals of the Foundation Stage. This vibrant and colourful room has been decorated in shades of red and orange, offering a warm and stimulating environment. Children have free access to a well equipped role play area, a cosy corner with a wide range of fiction and non-fiction books, puzzles and construction equipment. A writing table is available to encourage children to develop their independence and confidence with communication, language and literacy, allowing them to write for a purpose using a range of pens, paper, clipboards, envelopes etc,. A mathematical area is provided which has been well resourced with puzzles, weighing scales, sorting and counting equipment, shapes and pattern making activities. Children can also access a sand and water tray and a malleable table where they can develop their fine motor and manipulative skills using play dough, rice or pasta. Their creative area encourages the children to have unlimited access to a wide range of materials, encouraging them to mix their own paint, use scissors, glue and a variety of materials to create their works of art! As with our under threes, we also offer Heuristic Play sessions to our 3-5 year olds, see Curriculum for further details. Heuristic Play sessions provide excellent opportunities for children to explore in an unlimited manner with a vast range of everyday objects and natural materials. When the children are involved in Heuristic Play, the adult will not intervene, but will observe what the children are doing with the materials provided and make individual observations on each child. They provide the Key worker with useful information about each child's interests and stage of development. Heuristic Play links to the foundation Stage by encouraging children to explore with a wide range of objects and materials - Knowledge and Understanding of the World, Creative and Imaginative Development. As with our Green Room we have an additional two computers dedicated for the children in this room. This allows children to focus on ICT, an important part of the National Curriculum. |
